((I finally got off my lazy, procrastinating ass and decided to post. random note: I’ve decided to make some changes to Nikki’s past so you might want to disregard the sample post completely in regards to that D:))

religion and sex are powerplays
manipulate the people for the money they pay

Nikki was glad that the sun was out right now. He did not like the rain. Rain did not bring back pleasant memories for him. He would prefer that it never rained again when he was around; perhaps he should have chosen to live in the desert. Unfortunately, that thought did not seem to reach him, or maybe the arid parts were far enough away. He wasn’t even really sure of where he was, simply walking along the sidewalk with his hands shoved into the pockets of his ratty coat.

Nikki hoped that nobody noticed he wasn’t really supposed to be out in society. He wasn’t sure whether Debbie would complain about his disappearance to the higher-ups or be glad that he was gone; that bitch had never liked him. Nikki didn’t really give a fuck about her, or anybody else for that matter, and the fact that the good nurse would administer the tranquilizer if he was up just ten minutes past curfew didn’t help with his view of her.

Oh well, the fact was that he was no longer in the State Hospital and therefore did not have to deal with Nurse Debbie or any of those other people. And he definitely did not have to deal with Doctor X too, thankfully enough. Nikki cursed himself for his weakness, and it was bad enough that the Doctor had known it. He had made sure Nikki felt good so he could do a good job, and it only made him more easily manipulated.

He hated being weak, and he was still vulnerable, even though he was admitted to the Hospital to rid himself of it. Maybe he should have stayed longer, but then that would have meant probably going to trial too. That was not something Nikki wanted to do, even though pretty much anybody would say he deserved it if they knew what he’d done. But he was gone now, and as long as nobody came to take him away, he would be fine.

At least, that was what he was trying to convince himself as he ambled down the street. He let his feet lead him, and eventually he stopped in front of the Lodge. Nikki was tired of walking for now, and he was hungry, and just not for food. If he was lucky, there would be vending machines or something inside the place; it looked like there probably should be some anyway. The place looked pretty empty from what he could see, but then again someone was standing in the doorway which effectively blocked most of his vision.

Nikki shuffled past the man to get in, mumbling a quick “‘scuse me” out of almost unwonted politeness. Now inside, he leaned against the wall a few meters away from the unfamiliar man, watching him out of the corner of his eye with unfounded suspicion. Well, maybe not so unfounded in his opinion; how did he know this character wasn’t related to the Hospital or the Doctor? The latter would be worse, but he’d prefer that the person had no prior knowledge to his existence, which was probably the obvious, although Nikki was a bit too paranoid for his own good.
