In reply to: wondering 's message, "Does anyone have any info on the Wyoming pageant this weekend? It should be interesting with 2 former teens competing." on 19:12:55 10/03/03 Fri

CHEYENNE - Katie Rudoff and Maddison Strasheim were crowned Miss Wyoming USA 2004 and Miss Wyoming Teen USA 2004, respectively, on Sunday.

The two queens competed against 24 other girls from throughout the state for the titles and were judged in three categories: interview, swimwear and evening gown.

"This has been one of the greatest experiences of my life," Strasheim, 17, from Cheyenne said. "I've prepared for this for so long, and I've seen the biggest dream of my life come true."

Rudoff, 20, from Green River, was also named Miss Wyoming Teen USA in 1999.

She said, "It's incredible. I get to have a once in a lifetime chance twice."

The outgoing queens had a few pieces of advice as they passed down their titles and crowns.

"Make the most of tonight and every night afterwards," Miss Wyoming USA 2003, Jamie Gorman, said. "Take advantage of every minute of your year and enjoy it."

Miss Wyoming Teen USA 2003 Kasi Johnston said, "Be positive and always be yourself through everything."

Even though the other contenders did not walk away with a crown, they didn't walk away empty-handed either.

Caroline Fitzpatrick, 20, of Jackson, said she had a great time meeting girls from across the state.

"They're scared and nervous just like you," Sabrina Davis, 16, from Cody, said.

Elizabeth McClure, 19, from Cheyenne, said, "I've met so many great girls and made so many new friends."

Besides the opportunity to make new friendships, the pageant gave some girls a different type of opportunity.

Sarah Smith, 21, from Casper, said participating in the pageant gave her a chance to learn her true capabilities.

Cierra Woolsey, 17, of Cheyenne said pageants give her a chance to learn even more about herself.

"I love the swimsuit (competition)," Heather Finney, 18, from Evanston, said. "You have to have confidence to get up there in front of all those people in a swimsuit."

Some of the girls had competed before, whether for a Miss Wyoming title or in another pageant. But for some it was a new experience.

Amanda Tacke, 17, from Rock Springs, said she participates in pageants because she loves the thrill of being onstage. While she wasn't too nervous backstage, she said it would probably change as soon as she stepped into the spotlight.

Keri McConnell, 16, from Cody, said she took part in her first pageant because she thought it would be a "fun opportunity."

"I've never done anything like this," she said. "It was something different to try."
