If you want a great book that shows just how wrong you are, I suggest taking a look at The Contemporary Pennsylvania Legislature, a great book on the beast that is our General Assembly. I don't know the statistic off hand, but the vast majority of legislators are full time legislators. While some may keep a title of some kind in a law firm or a business partnership, they do so only in name and to supplement their salary. Few of those who have supplemental payment actually work in their partnership.
