Interesting and confusing. What file format were you using? If you leave it for 5 minutes does it recover? I'm just wondering if the problem is that the progress dialog is not coming up for some reason.

I would expect the CPU usage to be high while Har-Bal analyzes the track and being 20 minutes in length it should take some time. On the other hand you should see an analysis dialog showing the progress of the analysis.

I just tried loading a 17 minute track and it worked fine but the file size was only 177 MB. I'll try something bigger and see what happens.

Just as a point of interest, I wouldn't recommend using such a long track as a reference because it is more than likely to have significant thematic changes that exhibit different spectrum energy content. It would be better to edit it down to it's thematic components and treat each as a single reference.

This is something not handled by Har-Bal but we intend to have functionality to cater better for long files in the near future (ie. track splitting with the ability to apply different filters to each section). This doesn't excuse the problem.
