Subject: Are the mighty deserving of thrones? (Fantasy)

Deserving of Thrones
(opens in a new window)

The Trioperali Empire had been on the verge of falling apart—until a decade ago, when a weak emperor married an ambitious young woman, and a general rose in power to take control of the army. Under the hold of the empress and the general, the Empire's old power has been consolidated, and they are beginning to turn their eye to conquest, particularly of the two countries on its western border, Kearon and Vearin. With the Empire's power, there's little chance that either country could stand against it alone. Their only hope lies in an alliance against the Empire, and in order to secure this alliance a princess of Vearin and a prince of Kearon have been engaged to marry. But this alliance is by no means sealed, and with attacks both from within their own countries and without, it's uncertain whether they'll manage to solidify their defenses before the Empire decides to expand its borders. In this climate of uncertainty and divided loyalties, tension hangs in the air like storm clouds—but no one can know just yet when the storm is going to break.
