Subject: memory of bourbon and past lives

I remember I once 'LA-dated' a guy, who kept talking about his "BEST FRIEND", Bob...Later to realize it was the infamous Mr. Forrest, that all were the wild after..as he never played enough, nor got the attention deserved... I finally saw him/they, at a local LA record instore, and, after being a music reviewer, since out of the house, for a measly living, my short 22 year life at the time, since I was introduced to MUSIC through my mom and stepdad starting a record store outside Seattle at 11, I was pretty burnt out at hearing REHASHED 'versions' of the amazing greats prior, And, was absolutely astounded, that local hub-bub warrented TRUTH in the case of BobF., and his band, BicycleTheif. I had only gone because a guy I ended up living with, because a psycho had sublet my apartment, whilst I was away in the post SovietUnion, where I am from, and refused to move herself and her grossbelongings on my return, had said, [EVEN Though He Was On a Major Label/Had a Big Deal Going,-Although he KNEW I KNEW they were dirty socktaste bad, as some big signed bands ARE,] admitted, that he could not hold a candle to some other artists that had been out in one form or another since he had come to LA, and I questioned, not REALLY believing his taste, "So, Whom Would You Say Were Greeeeat?" Thus, leading to my B.F. encounter, y Bicycle Theif. While Bob sang front and center, vogued in his red massive curls, literally crooning his words, the rest hung back, recessively, performing rock melody; Neither of which sounded old or rehashed, and ACTUALLY, a completely personal take on life in LA, it seemed; As I listened to them jam past the1st and 2nd, it became more and more precisely clear that, at least the front man, held up to the stories I had heard, not only of his musical work, but his 'past-lives'; Which, LA is such a twisted underground of molted feathers and tar, that many people, even had they been through it, cannot pull their feet out from the muck far enough to tell the story. To anyone that checks this site, and clears the time away to read past comments, I hope you take my word for them, and, sooner or later, one of you has to be an A&R guy, who was signed by fastluck in signing some band who became famous by chance, and who is going to lose that smooooth life, else he charm them again...and to that person, I say, honey, you owe me a hat to put my feathers in!, for saving your ass, as they are a sure fit!! -XMJR ahlev1@excite.com
