Subject: new life on the old board

I'll chime in with my two cents here...I first saw Bob play at the Viper Room (as T Monster) opening for X about 5 years ago. I thought the "band" was terrible that night...they were sloppy, etc. About a month later, I'm at the El Rey to see Iggy Pop...who do I see walking into the venue - Bob. I'm laughing to myself thinking "there is that guy that sucked the other night"...much to my surpise about an hour later he walks on to the stage with a different band in tow...I started thinking "oh no - there goes another 30 wasted minutes of my life"...the next hour is without a doubt one of the most definitive hours of my life...to put this into persepective, I would say I attend about 75 shows a year (from small bars to big stadiums) and see over 150 bands a year - EASY...all as a fan, that's it...that has been going on for over 10 years...without a doubt, the single most memorable experience was what I saw next at the El Rey...from midway through the first song (this was Bicycle Thief) I was blown away...I remember turning to my friend (who was with me the month prior at VR) at the end of the first song and saying "holy shit" while he was also picking his jaw up from the floor...we stood in amazement for the next 10 songs or so...this was like a totally different person...the passion came through on every word...I wont go through the experience song by song, but man it was powerful...probably as close as I'll ever come to a religous experience...from that night forward, I dont believe I have ever missed a Bob/BT show in LA...through all the shows that have followed, I feel like I know Bob, even though I dont...the stories he tells makes each person in the audience feel like he is only talking to them...I have repeated so many of his stories to friends that have never seen him (although I am CONSTANTLY giving out BT CD's and trying to "sell" them on his music - hell, I should be his agent)...the music and the stories are worth the drive and admission price every time...One night Bob said he should have people over to his house and just play on his porch - I would love to go every Sunday afternoon just to listen to him sing and tell stories (from the time he "bought" Alanis Morrisette's car, worried about his son running away, how he thinks with one side of his brain while singing from his other side - ALL at the same time, etc.)...the man is a genius...although I prefer to see him as BT, I'll gladly see him solo...heck, rather than him busting his ass painting houses or working with food, I'd rather pay him to come sing in my garage every weekend...music and talent as good as his shouldnt be wasted, it should be heard...I agree with a comment below - can't SOMEBODY in this f'n town talk to one of their "many connections" and get Bob signed...he should be playing music for a living, nothing else...just ask any of the MANY, more "popular" artists with record deals (including the Chili Peppers, etc.)...they'll all tell you, Bob is the BEST!
