Belfast West 65.0% 5 4
Mid Ulster 45.5% 4 3
Newry & Armagh 39.8% 3 3
West Tyrone 38.6% 3 2
Fermanagh &
South Tyrone 34.4% 3 2
Foyle 32.4% 3 2
Belfast North 27.0% 2 2
South Down 26.5% 3 2
Upper Bann 21.8% 2 1
East Derry 17.9% 2 1
North Antrim 14.0% 1 1
Belfast South 12.6% 1 1
Souh Antrim 11.5% 1 0
Lagan Valley 7.9% 1 0
Belfast East 3.8% 1 0
Strangford 3.0% 1 0
East Antrim 2.5% 1 0
North Down .9% 1 0

In contrast, yet resemblance to what happened in the 26 countiey General Election:

In the 26, the traditional Republican areas of Cork, Tipperary, Mayo did not show as strong a 1st pref vote as would be expected. SF did well, no mistake, but I expected better. North Kerry was consistent with historical patterns.

In 1957, SF won 4 seats in the 26:

North Kerry
Monaghan
Sligo-Leitrim
Longford-Westmeath

They did not win again until the Hunger Strike during which they won:

Monaghan
Louth

and just missed Sligo-Leitrim by 315 votes.

They did not win again until 1997, when they won Cavan-Monaghan.

In the 6 counties, Mid-Ulster was always solidly republican, so was Tyrone, Armagh and Fermanagh. Bernadette Devlin was elected from Mid-Ulster, but would not have won without republican support.

However, Belfast almost always voted Nationalist.
Today only Belfast South gave the SDLP more than 20% of the vote. (West Belfast gave it 19% but only captured 1 seat there in constrast to 4 for SF!)

What this means is that SF is doing some very serious work and making tremendous gains in working class areas and is attracting more than traditional republican strongholds.

It is not just people switching from the SDLP to SF out of frustration.

The women and men of SF have worked very hard, are not spinners, but sincerely involved and it is paying off!

The only areas where the SDLP did more than 20% of the 1st pref votes were:

Foyle 36.1%
South Down 35.1%
Newry & Armagh 24.6%
Belfast South 22.9%

Of course, Foyle is the old Hume and Now Durkam constituency. But SF won also 2 seats in Foyle, while the SDLP got just 3.

In South Down SF got 2 to the SDLP's 2.

In Belfast South SF got 1 seat while the SDLP got 2.

And despite the strong showing by the SDLP in Newry and Armagh (24.6%), they only captured a single seat, while SF got 39.8% and 3 seats.
