Ned,the contigency budget will now force the educators and parents to focus on creating a suitable enviroment to have children taught the basics of how to read, write, and do arithmetic and the other agencies and volunteer organizations to work together in resolving behaviour problems.Ross Perot advocated traing children in their formative years and went over the heads of the establishment that could now be explored to meet the challenges that are dayily facing our youth and society.
Now is not the time to play the blame game but to seek out proven methods of child development to enhance their unlimited potential.
The FoH energies could and should be applied in this important undertaking as well as all segments of our community.Tom Koulos

Tom -

I hope that the budget process will send the right message - not that taxpayers don't want to pay for quality education, but that payment has to be linked to successful results.

The BoE and the Superintendent's office have to show that they take citizen criticism seriously. They have to address the clear failures of the existing system and outline concrete plans to turn them around. Then they have to implement those plans and make them work.

They can't be allowed to use the "contingency budget" and "austerity measures" against the students in a way that holds them hostage to Department spending and attempts to blackmail us into accepting their continued poor performance rather than risking programs they know are important for the kids.

It's important to speak out at this time, to make our voices heard and to demand success from our School Department. Failed administrators can always get another job or go into another line of work - but students whom the educational system has failed have nowhere to go.

Ned,your analysis is correct. The HCSD Board that could not answer the questions that were asked of them repeatedly by Wallace,Flem etc, came back to haunt them as they tried to cast the blame on them, and us.
So what else is new??How did you like the artistic renderings in other communities that were envisioned and created to the bleak looking facades??I was tempted to post them here and on Tim's Board to inspire others to what can be done and is being done by todays thinkers and doers.Instead I e-mailed them to you and others as you know to pass on to your contacts.Still no word from the local media to my questions as I suspected all along:):)Maybe the Publishers of the Local papers will step in and underwrite next years spectacular fireworks disply since SLC is no loger welcomed to our area along with other industries that shared the tax burden and funding of local organization projects.Tom Koulos
