The front door of the adoption center creeks as you
open it. A plump lady behind a desk smiles, and
without a word, leads you to a room full of toddlers
and babies.
"Look around if you'd like."
A small girl, with a clear Spanish heritage, toddles
over to you, tugging your sleeve. There's a sticker on
her shirt, it says 'Audney'.
"Audney has been here since she was 1 month old. Her
parents left her because of money troubles. Audney is
the sweetest thing. Would you like to adopt her?"
