Boeing to end 757 production, Bombardier shakes up plant operations
Bill Roy
Two of Wichita's planemakers are announcing major changes that result in local layoffs.

Boeing has announced it will end it's production of the 757 line. Boeing Wichita makes the fuselage for the plane. It is unclear how many people at Boeing Wichita might lose their jobs in the decision.

About 350 workers at Bombardier's Wichita plants will lose their jobs in a reorganization that includes:

Moving Learjet 40, 45 and 60 completions from Tucson to Wichita.
Moving Learjet Challenger 300 final assembly from Wichita to the company's plant in Dorval, Quebec, Canada.
A statement from the company says that some of the 800 workers laid off in Tucson will be offered jobs in Wichita, but the gain in employment here will be offset by moving the Challenger 300 work to Dorval.

Bombardier officials say the moves are designed to save the company about $25 million dollars a year.
