Date Posted: 10:46:52 09/27/03 Sat In reply to: Mark 's message, "Re: Lunch For Life" on 21:18:08 09/26/03 Fri Mark, I must admit I am “imagination challenged.” In addition, I do not have any “direct” connections to media outlets, however, I am certainly willing to bombard local –Chicago- outlets w/ information. With that said, the Chicago market tends to be ruthless and simply unwilling to carry anything about childhood cancer… They simply will not acknowledge September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, perhaps this is part of what I feel is a major obstacle; humanity as a whole is in denial. Despite the challenges, I will put my full effort behind this cause. Awareness and Funding for NB needs to be put on the center stage and I am willing to do my part whatever it entails. As I previously stated, I do not have “direct connections” to media outlets. I do, however, have several smaller “connections,” albeit not media related. Perhaps, in a round about way I can get the cause carried. I can/will approach the Northwestern Athletic Dept. to appeal to their “fans.” And at the very least I should be able to achieve ample support at the university. Last spring the women’s basketball team alone raised over 50,000 in John’s name – which went to the American Cancer Society with the promise to dedicate the funds to childhood cancer research. I can/will approach the Superintendent of the Chicago Police Dept. to appeal to fine men and women who serve this city. I can/will approach the media officer of the CPD to see if he can get some coverage. Phil can/will make a genuine plea to the rank and file of the dept. I have some, albeit limited contacts w/ local radio personalities, and although they have all been reluctant in the past to dedicate any time to childhood cancer—one must always hold out hope for the future. I also have some indirect contacts within Chicago politics—perhaps something will come of them, I suppose one never knows until they try. I would have to have my parents do that leg work, as the individuals are in their social circle. There are several other ideas stewing about in my head—hopefully I can get them translated into thoughts and transcribed onto paper. Please feel free to chime in if my “imagination challenged” thoughts are on the wrong path. Commas, of course, are always welcome. In conclusion, if you need help with anything else please do not hesitate to contact me. Jen [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
