I agree that the "friend" of Jean Baptiste is supposed to be the reader, however, I did not get the same sense of conviction that you did in reading it. I am really curious about this because I almost feel like I should be convicted but the problem is that i just don't buy alot of what Jean - Baptiste is saying. He is so focused on our failings as human beings and, as someone who believes that they have the Truth, I have a hard time focusing on human failings when I believe that I know the true answer to Jean-Baptiste's suffering. This probably sounds egotistical but, honestly, what do you think should be the Christian response to a book like this?
