If "the ghost reads you (Hamlet)," that would suggest taht either a) the ghost is a creature or tool in Hamlet's already-diseased mind, or b) the ghost is a malignant force taking advantage of Hamlet's vulnerability in the wake of his father's death.

I don't think the answer is a), because, well, I don't. It doesn't seem supported by the text. How's that for cogency?

As for the second option, I think it is almost in accord with what I was saying before. "Foul deeds" almost seems to be the predicate of the ghost, something intimately associated with it. It could simply be a reference to the events to come, but the lines that follow seem to evoke the idea of something rising from a grave, particularly that language about "o'erwhelmed to men's eyes."

That can't just be an accident, can it?
