I agree with you that Laertes acts as a model for Hamlet, but I am not sure if he is quite the model Hamlet wants. For, while he originally "shows none of the long, drawn out musings of Hamlet," Laertes does at the end hesitate to kill Hamlet. I liked what Dr. Jackson said about Laertes holding back in the final battle, and I think I have never seen that because I wanted idolize Hamlet and believe the better swordsman could lose to the passionate and less-skilled hero. I suppose I am just a product of all the sports movies I have seen. *sigh*
