Solidarity with Wisconsin Workers

The Irish Republican Socialist Committees of North America express
our solidarity with the workers in Wisconsin who are fighting back
against an attack on organized labor.

After Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, a favorite of the reactionary
Tea Party movement, declared his intent to strip collective bargaining
rights from most public-sector unions, unionized and non-unionized
workers alike began an occupation of the Wisconsin State Capitol
building in protest, inspired in part by the historic protests of the
Egyptian people (as numerous signs at the protest announced). We're
proud to say that members of the IRSCNA are taking part in the protest.

The protest has grown to 40,000 workers, and they show no signs of
backing down. They know that an attack on labor unions is an attack on
all workers. The IRSCNA see this as a part of a concerted attack on
labor by the capitalist class and their lackeys, who want to drive down
wages, benefits, and labor power.

This is also reflected by the number of workers who have been pushed
into the ranks of the unemployed, even as corporate profits have
risen. By creating a large reserve army of labor, bosses can then use
it as a weapon to gain concessions on wages and benefits from
workers, whether unionized or not. That's not enough for the bosses,
though. They want to reverse the gains made by organized labor over
the past century.

As attacks mount on our class, the working class, we must defend
ourselves by any means necessary. When the bosses and their
politician lackeys attack organized labor, we must fight back. When
they attack labor in general, we must fight back. We say, no war but
class war!

And make no mistake, fellow workers, this is a war. Billionaire
Warren Buffett said, "There's class warfare, all right, but it's my
class, the rich class, that's making war, and we're winning." We say,
enough!

Two dozen states are also considering similar legislation, and we stand
in solidarity with workers in those states as they fight back. Protests
have already begun in Ohio.

After decades of defeat and demoralization, this is a counter-attack by
international workers against the savage policies of the bosses. The
next step is to move beyond protesting to organizing, educating, and
agitating for revolutionary changes to the present class-based society.
The solution lies in the hands of the working class and our ability to
create a new kind of society, a socialist one.

We recognize that socialism is still a bad word to many American
workers, but as long as the majority of wealth and social power lies in
the hands of a minority, then the majority, the workers, will continue
to be exploited. We say, let's go to the root of the problem and end
that exploitation. Workers' power is on history's agenda. The more the
bosses demand cuts to living standards, the more they admit that their
system is coming to an end and it's our turn.

As the great Irish revolutionary James Connolly said, "The great only
appear great because we are on our knees, let us arise!"

Onward to victory!
