Subject: Easter Commemoration a Success in NY!

Some 200 Irish Republicans attended the 92nd Anniversary of 1916 Rising on Easter Sunday! The Mass & Commemoration was held at Kelly Ryan's Restaurant in the Bronx. The Mass was celebrated with Msgr. Patrick Moloney, native of Limerick and a former prisoner. The event was organized by Sean Oglaigh na hEireann & Friends Of Irish Freedom. There were numerous Patrons from the Irish Community; including Mayo Society of NY, Tipperary Association of NY, Leitrim Society of NY. Some on the Dais were former U.S. Congressman Mario Biaggi (age 90), Pres. of Antrim Society of NY, Pres. of Tipperary Assoc.,Pres. of United Irish Counties of NY, National Chair of FOIF, Pres. of Bronx Gaelic League, Vice Pres. of Commodore John Barry Club of Brooklyn. Ken Tierney, former political prisoner (Fort Worth 5), was Master of Ceremonies. Well known author and journalist Ed Moloney was Guest Speaker this year. He gave an excellant speech. The crowd loved him! Seven members of the Sean MacDiarmada Family were present. Michael Sean McDermott, one of Sean MacDiarmada's grandnephews read the Proclamation. The Pres. of Sean Oglaigh na hEireann was present, as were members and officers of Cumann na Saoirse. There were messages from Ireland and England; including a message from POW Noel Maguire. There were tributes for the late Brendan Hughes (Belfast) and the late John Hurley (Boston). An array of Irish Republican banners were displayed. There was Irish Republican music, and a large historical display of memorabilia from 1867 forward! There was an informative commemorative program as well. Attendees travelled from Belfast, Philadelphia, and Boston.
