A picket was held outside the high court in belfast this morning where a judicial review was due to take place into the conditions harry fitzsimons is being forced to endure.

around thirty supporters turned up to highlight our concern about the prisoners in maghaberry.

further to the above development, the following statement has been released by the concerned families and friends group:

Following a protest at the Alliance Party Headquarters, Belfast, last week when a letter was left in requesting a meeting with David Ford, the Concerned Families and Friends of the Maghaberry prisoners have to date received no reply, not even an acknowledgement.

We have sent the following letter to David Ford today, via email, and are still waiting for his response.

i attended a protest at your party headquarters last week where i left a letter in for you. to date we have not received as much as an acknowledgement let alone a reply.

to speed things up a bit i take this opportunity to formally request a meeting with you on behalf of the concerned families and friends of the prisoners in maghaberry.

we note your public endorsement of the POA position without even as much as visiting the prisoners to ascertain what their complaints are; nor have you made any effort to contact us or respond to our requests for a meeting.

we, the concerned families and friends of the prisoners in maghaberry request a meeting with you to discuss our concerns about the flagrant human rights abuses taking place in maghaberry under your watch.

we further request permission for a visit to maghaberry prison to take stock of the conditions our prisoners are being held under.

hopefully you will at least reply this time to our requests, and looking forward to meeting you soon,
