Author: Irish Political Status Committee.
Subject: Noel Maguire - repatriation refusal is victimisation!

We have been informed by political prisoner Noel Maguire that his most recent application for repatriation to an Irish prison has once again been refused.
In a letter from the Irish Ministry of Justice in Dublin, Noel was told his application was turned down on the grounds his "circumstances had not changed" since his application in June 2006.
This we know to be untrue. Noel's wife and two children live in the 26 Counties, and Noel's wife has put in writing to us they would visit Noel if he was repatriated to Portlaoise Prison - an hours journey from where they live.
The Irish Ministry of Justice are in receipt of a copy of that letter at the time Noel submitted his application in October 2006.
We can rightly assume therefore Noel is being victimised. His six co-defendants have all been repatriated to Portlaoise during last few months, and he is now the last remaining Irish political prisoner serving a sentence in a British mainland prison.
In November 2005 Noel was viciously attacked by two inmates in Full Sutton prison, and was hospitalised. Just what has to happen next to Noel to make the Ministry of Justice see sense?
Noel has now also been informed he cannot apply for repatriation again until at least one year has lapsed. This is deliberately misleading, and flies in the face of European Union legislation - which states a prisoner can apply for repatriation any time - if he believes his case is justified.
The IPSC will continue to support Noel in his struggle for repatriation, and a series of meetings and protests will be held in the coming weeks and months to highlight Noel's case and expose the injustice of his continued imprisonment in a British gaol.
Those intertested in supporting Noel are asked to contact us for details on -
