PSNI Raids Strongly Condemned

The Irish Republican Socialist Committees of North America strongly
condemn last week's raids on Teach na Failte premises in Strabane and
West Belfast by heavily armed units of the Police Service of Northern
Ireland.

Teach na Failte is a licensed charity organisation catering to the
needs of former Irish National Liberation Army prisoners of war,
offering counseling, job training, conflict resolution, and other
necessary services.

Despite the PSNI's claims that they were investigating some vague
criminal activities, the only items they seized were those necessary
for the operation of TnF services. A number of homes belonging to TnF
employees were also raided. This was a blatant attempt to destroy the
ability of TnF to function and serve its constituents by seizing its
funding documents and putting people out of work.

TnF project manager Eddie McGarrigle, an ex-POW who is confined to a
wheelchair, was tossed out of that wheelchair and left on the ground
by the PSNI. Is it a coincidence that since calling on other anti-Good
Friday Agreement republicans to consider ceasefires, he has been
stopped every day by the PSNI and now this happens? Could the PSNI be
trying to provoke a response from the INLA?

The IRSCNA strongly condemn the PSNI's strong-arm tactics and their
targeting of a licensed charity organisation serving ex-POWs. The PSNI
is simply the Royal Ulster Constabulary with a few cosmetic changes.
New name, new uniform, same old British police force.

We also send our solidarity to Teach na Failte. Keep up the good work,
comrades. We know you won't let this setback stop you from serving the
needs of ex-POWs.
