Fallen Comrades of the Irish Republican Socialist Movement

James McPhilemy
Volunteer - Irish National Liberation Army
Killed in Action on 10 August 1988

James McPhilemy, aged 20, was part of a three-man INLA unit from
Strabane, County Tyrone. When the unit was preparing to attack a
British Army checkpoint in nearby Clady, he made himself vulnerable by
calling out to warn children in the area to get down. The British
soldiers opened fire and killed him.

A memorial to McPhilemy and another comrade was unveiled in Strabane
on 10 August 2003.

Brendan Convery & Gerard Mallon
Volunteers - Irish National Liberation Army
Killed in Action on 13 August 1983

Brendan Convery and Gerard Mallon were killed during an attempted
ambush of Royal Ulster Constabulary personnel at a security barrier in
Dungannon, County Tyrone.

Convery, aged 25, was from Maghera, County Derry. 1,500 people
attended his funeral.

Mallon, aged 28, was from Madden, County Armagh. 1,000 people attended
his funeral.

A memorial to Convery was unveiled in Maghera on 17 August 2003.
