Hi people,

I've recently got a job at a company selling Holiday Memberships.

I just came to find out about this forum & it has cast some doubts in me. Is my company involved in these scams then? I'm also very confused at the same time. Big hotel chains such as Marriotts and Hyatt involved in this?

Should I work with them or not, please advise me.

Reputable hotels like Marriot and Hyatt do not sell their hotel memberships via agency...unless it's through a reputable travel agency for a travel package promo which usually will incl air tix and hotel accomodation at a fixed price. (not subject to changes)

They also usually sell their memberships via direct mailers and phone calls. They don't sell them on the streets.

Make sure the memberships you sell, allows your fellow citizens to terminate at anytime with the terms clearly stated and explained to them.

To be on the safe side, you should allow your clients to take home a copy of the sales proposal so that they can make a good decision without any hard sell tatics.

If your service or product is a fair deal and it's something they need, your clients will buy it without any need for hard sell tatics... worse still Touting! which by the way is illegal in S'pore.

Also, something you should do to protect yourself. Make sure that any employment contract you sign has an exit clause for you. Meaning you can end your employment contract with the company at any time with the termination terms stated clearly. When in doubt seek a 2nd opinion.
