] Date Posted: Thu, Jan 06 2005, 11:07:59 Hi all, Similar to most of you guys, I have been a member with ATC (purchased through IRN) for about 2 years. Finish installment in 2003. Yesterday they called me with a pretense that I was left behind in a group meeting that announce a new program, Discovery, that does not involve ever increasing maintenance fee. For that, they ask me to for out an additional 6.5K. I know a lot has been said about their high pressure selling tactics and unscrupulous business practice, but my question is: If I really2 use the package for my personal holiday...do I stand at loosing anything ? Will they cheat/cut down at the package?? With the new program, I'm no longer liable to pay them membership fee, at least this free up my mind of the timb bomb. But I still have a cooling period of 3 days to change my mind and revert to the old one....sincerely speaking....I don't know what to do. I just want a holiday package...that's all.... Thanks, YS [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: Wed, Jan 12 2005, 9:53:06 hi both of you! firstly, to yman: i understand your predicament. (1) you should not have signed anything in the 1st place but that's too late for regrets now. My friend was approached by a surveyor & by not signing anything & keeping a clear mind thru'out the entire presentation, he made off with a food voucher & a week's free stay at any destination of his choice (as it was stated in black & white on the scratch card) He has since gotten back from the holiday in australia and thoroughly enjoyed himself. (2) they do not cheat or cut down any packages but you must always read every single word and note for "*" at the ends. there is where ppl catch hold of you. (3) congrats that you've gotten a new, freer package. i hope you've read the terms & conditions & best of luck to you. You cannot blame anyone if you haven't read through thoroughly. Mind you, these terms & conditions are there so that the contract becomes legal in the eyes of CASE. what they can do is limited. so do lawyers. if everything is in black & white,& you've signed it, no matter what you do, you won't get your money back. Next, to george: You've been a great informer & adviser when i read thru this forum, but i must tell you that these timeshare companies are perfectly legal. It only require one to remain vigilant at all times. Lastly, to all: It won't help writing to MPs, CASE, or lawyers whatsoever. If you've put your signature down, you have to take what comes by. I've seen cases where public have come complaining of extra costs etc. Note: the companies are not overcharging them. It is just that the customer failed to read the fine print at the end of the page and footnotes like 'subject to other terms & conditions' or 'costs are not fixed at printing time'. Therefore, always read EVERYTHING before signing. -"it takes 2 hands to clap"- They would not be able to persuade anyone into signing if you take care of yourself. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: Fri, Jan 14 2005, 22:59:24 Yes it is legal. If u can bear with the thought that there are others who have paid much lesser than what u paid for the same membership then it is ok. If u can bear with the thought that u were promised 90 mins and end up sitting for 3 to 4 hrs then it is ok. If u can bear with the thought that your maintenance fees can go up and up and there is nothing u can do about it then it ok. If can bear with the thought that your bookings for a holiday are not guaranteed and u may be given other choices than it is ok. If u can bear with the promises that u can get to stay in beautiful & luxurious 5-star hotels but end up in some low-down resort by the sea then it is ok. If u don't mind being lied, lied, lied & lied to in your presentations and until u leave the premises then it is ok. Finally if u don't mind losing thousands of dollars to the timeshare companies for something u will seldom if rarely use then it is ok. I've been there and seen all this happening and i will tell all u good people : Caveat Emptor! [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: Sat, Jan 15 2005, 4:29:24 Don't listen to Greg! he's probably wokring for the crooks. What you signed is and AGREEMENT and not a CONTRACT!So you can stop paying if you wish to terminate If still not convinced, send copy of your agreement to Legal Aid for advice. If anyone wants to write straight to Prime Minister office, all should do so before end of January for impact.Don't waste time with CASE & CAD. Incidentally, anyone heard of any victim brought to court for cancelling payment or non-payment?!?!? No!!!I rest my case... So cancel your credit card and GIRO payment immediately. regards, Terminator [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: Tue, Jan 18 2005, 21:06:39 Everyone is a genius on hindsight, after reading of other victim's plight. Then they can go around saying victims should have read carefully. The fact remains, practically everyday, there will be someone getting misled into signing such contracts without realising the consequences. Surely something must be wrong, no?? What I see is, the best way to prevent more from falling into the trap is to create more public awareness. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
