I had the same experience of being promised a price and then, listening to their talk. Eventually, I left after paying some money to be an invitee. Whenever I want to travel, I will top up, depending on the location. It seems like many have been paying 5 figure sums and trying to get resale prices for their membership w/o success. For me, I just want the holiday accomodations. Full stop. So am I being taken for a ride down here? I have read that one of the guys got hassled to pay more while staying at 1 of the resort.
