Although I think the fact that FE-Buffy tells Willow she's in hell kinda weakens the response after OMFW.
Also, if all these people see 'ghosts' wouldn't they talk about it?
But overal, it's a good episode and I've enjoyed reading it.

here's my wriggle out of explanations:
*Willow was convinced she was in hell so finding out she was in heaven was harder
*Giles would'nt discuss Ben as he'd have to fess up
*Spike/Dawn could've talked over Summer easily (this is set hours after 'The Gift'
*Willow didn't tell anyone as, why would she tell them that Buffy was stuck in hell and begged for help?
bah, the next episodes better anyway - this one didn't go to plan at all.

[> Nicely done -- Thomas, 02:35:32 08/09/03 Sat
Some very well done writing. Angel/Giles part had me misty eyed, and I did like Ben in the background, works well with Giles. Don't think it worked so well with everyone else though. Anya-Cordelia scene was Funny. Spike-Angel was pretty accurate, very much what I would expect from those two. Very well written. Interesting choice of ending, sets up 6th season, but not what I would have expected. probably an 8.5 out of 10. (For comparison, I rated "Always and Forever" 10/10, and "Walk Away" 6/10). Now what I really would like to see would someone's take on "Welcome to the Helmouth" if Buffy wasn't there, ala "The Wish"

[> Another inspired story -- MTsFan, 05:40:58 08/09/03 Sat
I like the way Dawn clings to Spike. It fits their relationship at that time and she was traumatized. That would make her vulnerable to the FE. Her trip up the tower and accidentally being blown off fit. I had expected more survivor's guilt from Dawn in s6. This ep shows that and how far it could go with a little help from the FE.
Good touching moments. Giles guilt is good, not over killing Ben, but over losing Buffy. Even with both sources of guilt, I don't think Giles would leave. FE taunting is not why he left in s6. Perhaps you mean that conversation at the end to plant a seed in his mind.
Anya/Cordy was a riot.
Two things different -
1. Dreams of Glory haunt Dawn. This is good 'Lost Episode' stuff that makes sense.
2. The First Evil is shown starting its campaign even before Buffy comes back. This is the one I don't know whether I agree with. FE parts are well written and tell a story. With season 7 as a frame of reference, we can connect to that story. As a stand-alone it's good. If season 6 proceeded with this much of the FE around, it would have been different.

I have to say I thought this episode was really beautiful. Yes, I get the criticism of Buffy begging for help, but that's a pretty minor flaw in what was overall a well crafted and brilliantly written episode.
The characters came accross really well, and I think your usage of the first was particularly good. The scene where "Buffy" was coaxing Dawn off the tower was poignant and chilling at the same time.
Very well done on this, VK Max!
