Hi Steve,
I played for your dad and Murray Adler from 59-62. They were both important people to me in those years. To an insecure teenager being part of a team and being made to feel important was something I'll always remember.

I remember your dad as the "good cop" and Ace Adler as the "bad cop" in the sterotypical scenario. Coach Adler was always the very emotional, unpredictable one and your dad was always the voice of reason. I remember how hard your dad worked; and how many cigarettes he smoked; and the smell of tincture of benzoin ("tuff-skin")when he taped our ankles on Saturday mornings; and that beat-up car he drove; and your mother telling us that she knew all our names because your dad spoke about us when he was at home; and your father's huge hands; and your dad talking about his footbal experiences at Erasmus Hall H.S; and your dad forcefully telling one of my teamates never to make racial stereotypes after he made a vulgar comment about the Boys High football team; and, yes, the smell of the oranges during halftime.

I had a closer relationship to Murray Adler in those days,
but I always had respect and great admiration for your dad.

Sincerely,

Richard Garcia

it's starting to come back, coach mars running 16mm prints of his brooklyn college team staring Allie Sherman at qb and coach Mars at end, my god, it's almost 50 years and I still think of the Man as "Coach Mars", thats the kind of impression the man had on my young life.
My sure He would be very proud of his son becoming a heavy with Madison Square Garden Productions.
Later.....
