Subject: Miss Unite Pageant

I attended the Miss Unite Pageant this past weekend. I am hoping the directors read this board. You never know how people take constructive criticism and would never want repercussions to my daughter so I think it's best to post here.

First let me say the winners were spot on. I agreed with all winners and I am sure they will do well at their respective state pageants.

The production was not put together well. The pageant was almost 5 hours long! There were 5 age divisions, with 4 categories each, and it was just too much. No pageant should last that long. Maybe it would be best to have a prelim the night before?

Since things were running so late the winners were not given a proper crowning nor were the former queens allowed to take their final walks. It was rushed because it was so late. Side awards were handed out at the end after all the winners were crowned. It was just a big mess with no "special" feeling.

The thing that bothered me most was in the crowning of the Jr Teens and up. The junior teens had 8 contestants and 5 were crowned onstage, leaving 3 young girls standing there with nothing. These are young girls 10-14 and should not have been left standing on the stage with nothing.

Teens, Ms and Miss had a top 6 - a judges top 5 and a people's choice award. However, at crowning, only the top 5 were awarded. So you had one contestant left out in the cold. No trophy, no announcement, nothing. The Ms just stood behind the line of the top 5 not knowing what to do. The teen stood in the line of smiling girls holding trophies looking sad and embarrassed. To make matters worse, the girl left out was left until the end, to hold hands with the winner, to be told she got nothing. It was horrible and everyone around me felt so bad for them.

I hope the director understands that what she did was exactly what they had rallied against earlier in the day. By knowingly having a top 6, yet only awarding a top 5, you left girls standing on stage feeling alienated and embarrassed. If that isn't bullying, I don't know what is. Please, next year, spend an extra $10 and buy trophies for the ENTIRE top group of girls.

This is not a shock at all. I would do a little background search on the director. Once you see all the mess she is usually involved in, pick another pageant to put your time and effort into.

I couldn't believe she is running an anti-bullying campaign. She had a rep for being a nasty competitor in multiple systems.

Of course we remember the character and behavior of others, especially if they had a nasty temperament during competition, you can't help but to remember. People evolve to be a better person in this society. Great post tips!
