Television is something that can be very time consuming, I mean, some people actually watch it all day. And it´s so sad how in brazil tv is used so poorly. Fact is, the programs are just horrible. Naturally, television can be put to very constructive use. After all, all they would have to do, for instance, is make the programs more educational and cultural. In addition, tv watching is something done very passively. People simply don´t think about what they are watching. There´s no time for reflection. Nevertheless, when I become a father, I will keep an eye on how tv is dealt with in my house. Truth is kids are influenced tremendously by what they watch. There´s just so much violence, sex, pornography, etc. Some of the programs are also negative because of the irrealism they display, like Malhação. In short, they portray real life as it isn´t and this can create a frustration on kids. They can be saddened or at least disappointed that they aren´t priviledged enough to live out the same reality as the characters on tv. On the other hand, tv can be great for entertainment, like when you are sick of work or school, simply to distract your mind. Furthermore, news reports have to be watched critically. What happens is people just absorb all the information that is transmitted. All in all, the thing is, to be sure that you know what your kids watch, this way, you´ll be able to talk to them and help them, by showing them how to absorb what is being transmitted to them.
