1. The text I read was “Los Angeles Area Gets a New Spider”.
2. It is about a species of spider found in the Los Angeles area: the brown widow. This spider is not very common in the United States, and it was found by a 4th grade student who thought the spider different. From more than 3000 spiders collected by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County in its Spider Survey, only this spider is a brown widow. According to scientists, this species of spider probably originated in Africa, and was taken to other continents through commercial imports of food, furniture and plants. The brown widow is not so aggressive as the black widow, but it is twice poisonous. What mainly differs the black and the brown widow is their color and the hourglass design found on their underside: the black widow has a red hourglass design on its underside. The brown widow has a orange-to-yellow hourglass design.
3. My performance in the exercises was excellent. I answered all the 15 questions of the quiz correctly.
4. There are few reasons to visit this website. Although I thought it was interesting to find different texts to different levels, most of the texts are exclusive for members of the “English Zone Website”. Some of the texts do not have exercises available, and some of the exercises found are extremely easy. The positive in the website is that you can read a lot of different Aesop’s fables, and an interesting story written by Edgar Alan Poe freely.
