Subject: Task 2

1. Visit http://depts.gallaudet.edu/englishworks/exercises/main/reading.html where you can find some reading activities. Please select any topic, read a text and do the exercises. Then write a report giving good reasons to motivate an English learner to visit that site.

I have chosen the text about Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts of America. The texts describes several moments of Juliette’s life: from her birth, on October 31, 1860, in Savannah, Georgia, through her married days in Great Britain until her death on January 17, 1927. The text also features some curiosities about her life like the fact that she was deaf and began to lose her hearing when she was 17, for example.

My performance when doing the exercises was good and I liked the vocabulary exercise the best. This site is without a doubt a very interesting one. The reading exercises are quite practical but I don’t think they will be very appealing to some students once they may not be familiar with the people being talked about. But it is worth a try!

2. Go to the following site: http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~leslieob/pizzaz.html#Poetry and choose the kind of poem you want to learn how to write. Write at least one and then send it me.

A citzen del mundo
Nina...
quite tall, energetic, introspective, quite bright
sister, friend, girlfriend, pal, mate, classmate, daughter
who just cannot live without music, books and noise and people
not afraid of anything or anyone
she wants to see, live, breathe the world
seizing the day and proud to be
… Lopez
