There was so much I just adored in this ep.
From the word go we have wonderful Wes and Lilah interaction, the characterisations of both are just spot on, I can really hear there voices in my head. The 'it's too easy' dilemma made me laugh. Typical Wesley to be the one who fusses and Lilah who just sees it as another way to lead AI on a wild goose chase.
LILAH
Angel and the team are off looking deeper into things, trying to bust our ultimate and complex plan because it’s just ‘too easy’ that we’re letting them know what we’re really up to.
And then there was that little sting in the tail.
WESLEY
You had to wait for them to leave before you escaped.
LILAH
They had weapons.
WESLEY
Wouldn’t have stopped Lilah.
LILAH
I am Lilah!
WESLEY
Right and I’m Wesley Wyndham-Price.
(OT: Apparently the spelling of the infamous surname is 'Wyndam-Pryce.' The first makes no sense because everywhere in England with that name has an 'h,' but there you go.)
Seems to be a common problem for vampires; Just how much of them is still them and how much is changed by the demon. Angel clearly sees Angelus as a separate person. From the looks of it, so does Wesley regarding his own soulless state. It's just Lilah who is becoming confused, which is kind of ironic considering before her death she was the most sorted and self-aware person out of the whole lot of them.
The 'cat fight' between Lilah and Faith was a classic scene. Both pulling no punches, snapping one liners, a real clash of the titans. Fantastic! And both had to endure the last minutes interference of the other's partner; Spike saving the day before Wesley promptly rained on his parade.
I liked Lindsey a lot in this episode. He has really taken in the severity of the situation and for once the fact that he doesn't seem to care very much for any of AI has stood him in good stead. He's keeping a cool head and it's great to see him hitting the books to help out. Hopefully the rest will follow suite.
And yet again, I'm going to end with 'poor Angel.' That guy just won't let go, which considering how in the past he's lost Buffy, Connor and Cordelia is hardly surprising. I guess this was just the last straw. It's nice that Faith is tough enough to bulldoze him into some form of dealing before the whole operation sinks. Her way of making him rest was just what he needed, if a little painful.
Congratulations on a truly remarkable episode!
