The idea came from a documentary on PBS (public broadcasting, much like the BBC) In real life, scientists have found there are people who are immune to AIDS. It's true! They have traced this to a common delta 32 gene. They have traced the first occurance of this gene mutation in the human body to the plague. The Black Plague. It seems some nurses during the plague never became infected.

Adding this twist was a last minute change due to factors that I can't say right now because it might spoil upcoming eps. I should have gone into more detail to try and explain, but I didn't feel the situation would allow for long exposition on Fred's part. If I ever return to this issue, I will attempt to do a better job explaining things. Thanks to all for your comments and if you have questions or comments, I will gladly try to address them.
