The very first scene had me hooked, the VO was incredibly powerful, reminding me a little of Angelus' speech about passion on BtVS except this one was miles better, I kid you not. What a way to start, with Angel vanishing into dust. Wow.
The overall episode was beautifully plotted, everything coming back full circle to where it all began. You had the same fight scene in the same ally, only a little dfferent. And it was nice to see that the teaser, which initially had looked depressingly like an act of desperation, was actually the moment Liam finally achieved some sort of peace and happiness.
Interesting to suddenly have to see Willow as the unprepared one of the group. I'm so used to seeing her as the all powerful witch, that it was quite a surprise to realise that without the magic she is actually more helpless than Fred. And it was a little ironic that the Willow who used magic was the one who died and the one who struggled with just a sword was the one who pulled through.
And of course I have to comment on Wesley's heroic end because otherwise what kind of Wes-fan would I be? :)
Very sad, and very Wesley, especially after the events of Lineage. Actually, it also reminded me a little of the explosion in To Shanshu in LA, I wonder if Angel saw the similarity as well.
Liam was wonderfully written. Enough of Angel there for us to recognise him, and enough of new Liam for us to see that they really aren't the same person. His words of advice to Angel good ones, and I'm glad to see Angel take them in. Angel has on the whole been less broody than he used to be, but it's about time he consciously made the decision to enjoy the life he's got right now. After all, a loving family and a son who is starting to accept him, many of the humans he works so hard to save would probably give their right arms for that.
