There is major work going on in most of the rooms on the hall side to make them comply with regulations. I have a mutual friend there a couple of weeks ago and she asked to change her room. I too have asked for a particular single room as it has a wash basin but couldnt book it. That was the reason given and there were no students sleeping in most of the rooms that side.
Perhaps the regulations have changed since you were there but you cannot book into most of the rooms on that side, athough I hear that work may be completed soon and a futher inspection carried out. Hope this helps. We are concerned with now, not the past.
