But we come back again to the why's and wherefore's. It maybe that Alan is using her as much as she is using him. If enough complain about her behaviour, general laziness, bad language and uncontrolled children he will have to do something. That something may be to sell the centre and more importantly the land, thereby gaining what he wanted in the first place, profit, and secondly having someone else to take the blame. Think about it.
I have been among the recent volunteers/freeloaders (delete as applicable) and would love to tell you about my 14 hour days, the way I was told that I was not allowed any time off, even at weekends as I was there to work, the way mealtimes went, Tracey, the cook remember, throwing tantrums because some of us couldnt take turns cooking because we are useless in the kitchen. Not only was I expected to fend for myself but when she and her lover were out, as frequently happens even when students are there and she is being paid to look after them, I was supposed to help in the kitchen as well.
Alans answer to this is that we were lucky to be there for nothing he envisaged a time when people would pay to be volunteers there. Dream on.
I learned a lot during my time there about the less pleasant side of human nature and travelled home, a long way and at my own expense almost broken by it.
