Morality had little to do with it. Reg's mistakes were all strategic / tactical.

Had the SaskParty built their campaign around "the SaskParty team," emphasizing figures like Brad Wall, Ted Merriman, Ken Krawetz, Rob Breciani etc., Elwin Hermanson would now be the Premier-designate.

Had the SaskParty message on the Crowns been clear and unequivocal (ie, "We will not sell the four core Crowns" vice "We have no plans . . .), Elwin Hermanson would now be the Premier-designate.

Had the SaskParty not allowed the NDP to set the issues through constant and defensive responses, Elwin Hermanson would now be the Premier-designate.

Had the SaskParty's ads not begun by repeating the NDP's messages, Elwin Hermanson would now be the Premier-designate.

We didn't win. You lost. You really should get over it, young grasshopper. A life of bitter rage is not a life worth living. Fire Reg Downs, hire a competent strategist and run a better campaign next time.

And BTW, the entire SPUDCO story can be found in tedious detail in the 1997 SaskWater annual report. If we were covering it up in 2003, young grasshopper, we were doing a very poor job of it.
