Subject: White noise for EVP
In reply to: JC 's message, "Re: You EVP setup" on 15:43:10 06/12/08 Thu

JC,

As I suspected, you have an appalling understanding of what you are doing and how to proceed with EVP investigations

Magnetic tapes are poor reproducers of frequencies outside the normal audio range when used in domestic tape recorders and even good quality microphones rarely give reasonable performance above 10Khz or so. In any case, the object is NOT to use a microphone to pick up extraneous sounds to record, but to feed a source of WHITE NOISE into the tape recorder and to listen to any possible fluctuations on playback.

To meet a proper scientific standard of investigation you would need to screen all your equipment from any stray radio frequency radiation which might inadvertently affect results.

But if you insist on sticking to your daft method, be careful of any crow farts being picked up by your microphone whilst ghost hunting in a cemetary. Worse still, beware of crow shit falling on your microphone (and clogging up it's windshield), lest you misinterpret the plopping sounds for voices from beyond the grave. (Some idiot recently told me these birds have a habit of frequenting graveyards).

Oh, BTW - there is no more statistical chance of getting in contact with the dead by strolling through a graveyard with a tape recorder than there is by sitting on the loo and meditating. Take a laxative while you are at it and flush out some of that bullshit which seems to have affected you, not me.
