Considering some of us are in need of a personal renaissance (me), a look back in time is apt. In Ancient Egypt, we have periods termed ' Intermediate'. What this means is essentially a breakdown of the Central Authority. However, some of these periods were not as chaotic as others. The Third Intermediate period established a stable but divided Kingdom. Ramesses XI, having had trouble with rebellious high priests of Amun, invited his Nubian Viceroy to march North to put down the uprising at Thebes. Only Panhesy, didn't stop there, he thought to grab much of the Kingdom for himself. He continued his advance past Thebes Northwards. Ramesses countered by sending his General, Herihor to confront the rebel. Herihor was succesful, and drove Panhesy out of Egypt and back into Nubia.

Having gained control at Thebes, Herihor soon declared himself High priest of Amun, and with Ramesses agreement, the country was effectively spilt in two ushering in the Third Intermediate period. Properly this period is marked by the beginning of the Renaissance, or as we know it in Ancient Egypt, the Whm-Mswt, literally the ' Repeating of Births ( the term is what we might call, a new Golden Age ). Always, we percieve times past as being better than present times.

Ramesses XI ruled circa 1104-1075 bce, the Whm Mswt is declared in Ramesses's Regnal year 19 = Herihor year 0, Herihor now calling himself King in Thebes. Ramesses XI power is really over, Smendes, a relative of Herihor is the power in the North, becomming King on Ramesses death.

Herihor rules from Thebes for around six years, founding a line of Priest Kings, which rules the South in harmony with the 21st Dynasty ruling from Tanis in the North. Smendes founding the 21st Dynasty.

Year 5, RB: Wenamun starts out for Phoenicia

Year 6,RB: Herihor commanded to renew the burial of Seti I

Year6,RB: Herihor commanded to renew the burial of Ramesses II

Year7,RB. Presumed death of Herihor

Year10, RB: Death of Ramesses XI in his regnal year 29. Smendes now King in the North.
