Subject: KV14, an Enigma ?

Lately, the somewhat confused situation following the death of King Siptah has been interesting me. A sickly youth, Sitpah suffered from Polio as evidenced by his mummy. Now we know Queen Tausert (wife of Seti II) exercised Power during and after Siptah's short reign. Supported by Chancellor Bay, she ruled well enough. Her rival, the aging Setnakhte, became king on upon her death, Setnakhte didn't rule long, but he provided Egypt with a strong and able ruler, Ramesses III.

What has interested me is Tausert's tomb, KV14. The only Royal tomb in the VK provided with Two burial chambers. Siptah had his own tomb, and Bay was accorded the singular honour of his own tomb in the Place of Truth. So, who indeed was the second chamber for ? Setnakhte was a possiibilty, as he was already old, but the evidence suggests Setnakhte simply usurped Tausert's tomb.

Just google KV14, take the virtual tour provided by the Theban Mapping project site, perhaps the best graphics I've seen, most impressive. Meanwhile, my research into the period continues.

Regards,

Ian
