Subject: Solar Eclipses seen from Luxor

I recieved an answer to my query by asking an expert, this is his reply: Answer from Harry Hayfield.

" In a nutshell LOADS! (we are talking about nearly 4,000 years here). The best thing I can do is list the complete total and annular eclipses for the first thousand years and then multiply that number by 4 to find the number of total and annulars in that time and then to times that figure by at least 5 to get the total number.

January 14th 1601 BCE: Annular eclipse (4' 41.8" duration) visible at 12.36pm - 12.41pm UTC
June 1st 1477 BCE: Total eclipse (3' 13.2" duration) visible at 4.45am - 4.48am UTC
July 5th 1378 BCE: Annular eclipse (1' 41.7" duration) visible at 3.14am - 3.16am UTC
October 27th 1356 BCE: Annular eclipse (4' 4.7" duration) visible at 4.07am - 4.11am UTC
October 17th 1326 BCE: Annular eclipse (3' 20.6" duration) visible at 11.54am - 11.58am UTC
April 14th 1260 BCE: Annular eclipse (3' 6.9" duration) visible at 3.43pm - 3.45pm UTC
July 27th 1256 BCE: Total eclipse (2' 39.0" duration) visible at 8.14am - 8.17am UTC
September 7th 1249 BCE: Annular eclipse (5' 34.9" duration) visible at 7.14am - 7.19am UTC
July 31st 1063 BCE: Toyal eclipse (1' 37.2" duration) visible at 3.30am - 3.32am UTC

Eclipses seen: 9
Forecast Total: 36
Grand Total: 180

Probably not totally accurate, but I accept the data and appreciate that someone has gone to the effort for me. I had been looking for a total of 31. To verify something I was reading. Any comments...Is Stephen Tonkin still out there ?

Cheers

Ian
