Thanks for that bit of info Alex, your source was good as well....

Yes, we will never know what exactly happenned on that dreadful day, all I can say is, based on what I have read, antony DID turn his back on his men at sea because of his obsession with cleopatra. Its been said that she was far off watching the battle in her royal ship and when antonys fleet was destroyed she started to leave. But antony still had plenty of ships left and was still alive and when he seen cleopatra leaving, he left his men stranded and took half od his fleet back to egypt to follow cleopatra.

Good stuff and very interesting.....

It is well known that antony and cleopatra were very much in love and I don't have to tell you what happens when to 2 people fall for eachother.. They tend to forget their responsiblities and all they think of is that strong bond and obsessive love. It was wrong what antony did to his men by turning their back on them... they were very loyal to him and looked up to him and loved their general.

Women can do strange things to ya Ian.... as males, this is our greatest weakness. A woman can turn a very strong brave man into a wimpy little worm that's for sure. Its part of the natural order of things I guess.

Antony also had a bad drinking problem and partyed hardy.... the grape had a lot to do with his ability to be strategic on that day at actium... women and alcohol don't mix!!!!

But one thing is for sure... he was a great general, loved dearly by his men and had the balls to turn against his own corrupt country and try to sack it and change the shift of power with his beloved....

The famous sounds of antonys legions battle cry hitting there shields with their swords will echo in eternity..... his soul remains alive to this day, trying to find his cleopatra and seek forgiveness for such a hard ride.......
