read it all but...under header Innovations two thirds down you'll discover that , as Kat Says. this is hardly a New Discovery.

Many scholars argue that it was teh Roman ability to build Roads, Bridges, Aqueducts, public buildings temples etc etc that gave tham an edge over everyone else..

...and Not their Military machine,,,which was itself innovative in both tactics and it's infrastructure and technology.

actually they are both the same. The Romans were Innovators more than Originators.

IOW's they didn't invent mousetraps, they perfected them.

Quite similar to the way in which the Japanese perfected the technologies that they learned from the west...and soon overtook us in the innovation department.

Rome and Greece are both open books. there's no need for much speculative deduction about either's developement.
