The late 60's were such a clash of cultures. You have this poor kid being forced to wear some silly hat just because he's a freshman... a tradition that looks like it's from 1910. Yet also in '69 you have all the anti-establishment currents which question everything about, and rebel against, such traditions and even America itself.

I can only wonder what that innocent freshman was like after being at UMass for a few months.
