I think everybody here agrees that the film is amazing..Yes i think that mouse is the people's perspective, she's seeing everything from Tory's and Paulie's side.
To understand the symbol of the raptor and maybe other things it's better to read Wives of the bath as Stef said.

Mouse is a shy person and she's trying to deal with the problems they are both facing. She tries to help them both in a way, but still she doesn't know exactly what to do.
At the end i think she realised that what paulie did wasen't right, and that she has the power of her mother's love that keeps her strong and alive..


Just a short opinion of mine..
