Mary in Paulie were in the same boat. Everyone that loved them dumped them. Paulie lost her mother again (which was almost as big of an event as loosing Tori) and her friends while Mary lost her dad (along with her mom) and she never really had any friends. The difference was Mary still loved herself and that's what she "told her mom."

What probably would have happened would she would have been arrested for theft and conspiracy to commit murder. Since this story had some some extremely lenient adults (you try threating a teacher with a sword) they probably would have baked her cookies or something.

The raptor, the bird, was freedom. When Paulie said don't touch the raptor, I think she was talking about her sword (they type of sword is called a raptor) and herself (when she went off crying during the dance it did sound bird like).

Here are some interesting comment notes. Paulie tells Mary that she looks young, like a 14 year-old. Bijou Phillips says the exact same line to Mischa's character in Tart. Three years later the press and some of the audience says she looks too old to play her character on The O.C. (even though her character is nearly the same age as her). Mischa played a lesbian in Once and Again and a child upset that her mom is a lesbian in Julie Johnson. Mischa went from working with a raptor in L&D to working with dolphins in Ring of Endless Light.
