Subject: Reducing Hips & Thighs

Hips and thighs are the number one concern of all females with belly coming in a close second. So what does one do in order experience the reduction successfully in these areas? First, patience is one virtue we must all have to be successful. Second, proper nutritional practices and sound, scientific strength training principles. Generic circuit weight training found in most all women's fitness and weight loss studios such as a Contours, Curves or otherwise can not effectively address the individual needs and concerns that each women deals with.

Since most of the generic cookie cutter type of fitness and weight loss programs do not address the specific and individual needs of each woman, then there can only be a generalized approach with minimal success when following these types of programs. Only working with a professionally certified fitness trainer can you truly develop an lifelong approach to address your specific needs and desires.

The following is a brief discussion on why we store fat in particular areas. I hope this helps. Oh, and by the way, all women's fitness and weight loss centers DO NOT employ certified fitness trainers. They may be trained by the company on how to teach their method of exercise but please understand these employees are not trained fitness professionals. They cannot address the issues you have questions to.
***********************************************************

The region of the body which first experiences a noticeable decrease in body fat will vary from person to person because it is genetically predetermined. Women may first see fat go from their upper bodies, despite the fact that their fat stores may be located predominantly in their lower bodies. This is the case because the activity of the fat promoting enzyme lipoprotein lipase is very high in the thighs and hips of women resulting in a higher percentage of fat deposition in these areas. Women actually need these stores to prepare for pregnancy and lactation.

If we think of a fat cell’s volume in terms of a coin analogy, doubling cell diameter from the size of a dime to a 50-cent piece doesn’t simply double cell volume; rather, the volume increases eight times! Thus, the once “small” fat cell tremendously swells in volume as more fat enters the cell and encroaches on the cell’s membrane capacity to hold it’s normal fat volume.

Because the typical person can have anywhere from 30 billion to 300 billion or more fat cells,(body type is important to understand here so you need a professionally certified trainer to help you) a relatively small increase in fat cell volume translates to an overall increase in body size, primarily in the lower trunk region. Simply put, fat cells that fill up with more fat become “fatter” fat cells. Because the total number of fat cells remains relatively fixed by adolescence, further increases in body size must occur by filling existing adipose cells with more fat.

Therefore, it will take more time to empty out larger fat cells, and unfortunately those larger fat cells tend to correpsond with problem areas. It is important that you continue and be patient with your exercise and nutrition program in order to get to those hard or stubborn areas. Eventually, you will experience fat loss in those stubborn body areas. Don't get discouraged. As long as you follow the basic tenets of exercise programming you should be fine.
