As the child of a single mother, and a single mother of a child, this is the bullshit they push about US.
My mother, me and my son all have advanced degrees. My mother held a MA, I have both MFA and MCJ and my son will complete his PhD program next year.
I have a number of friends, also single mothers, who have the same stories/outcomes. Who’ve beaten the odds, whose lives would have been worse if the “fathers” were in the home. We all did better without them. We succeeded when we were told we wouldn’t, weren’t worthy, couldn’t attain. I say BULLSHIT. Supports for single mothers are lacking, but we find/found our own supports, became our own strength, to weather the bullshit heaped upon us, the popular narrative of our failures.
The single mother failure is a lie. Staying with a drunk, drug addicted, dead beat, paranoid, no working, lying, cheating, pos man isn’t going to hold a family together or be the environment you want to raise children in. I’m sick of this bullshit. Two parents do not equal educational success. Two parents do not guarantee personal success. One strong parent can change their child’s world. We are living proof.
