The 'system', e.g. gubberments, institutions, unions, agencies, etc., is only the enabler of failure. To be at the point in society wherein a major leader of the Institution charged with public education is in a frenzy crying up the children of the American parents "are their babies" to the applause of thousands of "educators" indicates to me a major misallocation of "parenting" responsibilty has taken place for the last 50 years at least as well. It was/is the parent(s) responsibilty to ensue and propagate real world values, i.e. a preparedness through knowledge. Meanwhile there was and is a huge demographical brain drain occurring that can't be filled with the current relatively small pool of generationally prepared and educated. I think many of the adults in the room are increasingly becoming aware of this and it's causing a lot of angst, cop outs and scapegoating. There's an opportunity in that dissonance for the parent's with the will to take the responsibility, despite or inspite of the 'system', that their child is part of the sought after knowledge based pool.
