Subject: The Mayor's a liar

Going back looking at video documentation, i.e., city council archived meetings. It is evidently clear how the mayor has lied , badgered and manipulated the narrative in countless occasions. He and Grice have publicly stated, we don't get involved in matters of negotiations with our unions. This is a lie, being that they vote on the ratification of said union contracts! They agree to the pay, and stipulations therein. Monteverde has been on record saying that certain things such as scheduling, manpower, and time accumulation cannot be implemented until it is negotiated with unions, which demonstrates an active knowledge of this. It is horrendous how Mayor Harvey and Grice went on record, accusing the FD of an overtime scam, by producing salary numbers of retired individuals, who salary amounts were adjusted due to contractual time, such as sick and personal leave that was included. No scam, truly earned compensatory time, that is owed to said individuals. Just as is owed to him and Grice in their teaching contracts. It was a boogie man approach, to vilify, and slander a department for the purposes of political grandstanding, and cover up of fiscal mismanagement, by not implementing methods such as staffing, that was brought to their attention by a paid firm ( Conor O'Davies) and the Fire Chief at the time. How can someone double their salary as Grice likes to state, if there isn't a void that needs to be filled? It's a person for person institution. Only way overtime is achieved, is a direct hour per hour need! Can't work if no one is not needed for that position! So what was done was cut out a whole company, and reduce manpower, but increase workload on fewer people. This is the case for PD as well as far as manpower cutting. This was made aware during this weekend when patrol supervisors had to recall officers to backfill in order to keep up with call volume. This would not have to be done if they were staffed correctly. What results in understaffing is two fold, first on the positive for management, it brings down expenditure initially, but long term, results in a negative when demand increases in a dynamic position such as policing, which can change rapidly. Now with the cutback, it is virtually impossible to keep up with call demand, especially in emergency situations. Risk verse reward is out the door, now the lack of available manpower is seen in real time. Cost savings are gone, because they are eaten by overtime to cover a gap created by understaffing. Textbook administrative budget slashings. In the real world it translates to crime uptick, employee injury, and burnout. Not to mention overtime that wouldn't have to be paid, if staffed correctly in the first place. Sounds simple, because it is. It's politicians, like Harvey, Grice, Shakur and the others who spin the narrative of employees bilking the system with an elaborate scheme to manipulate the system, when in fact, it is their lack of system management that is the issue. They need to differ to professionals to handle matters outside of their knowledge base. Just because you're an educator, doesn't make you a departmental finance guru. Long term you create even more of a problem.
