Councilwoman Monteverde: Have you read In the Know’s comments? It is very sad how people outside of the City of Newburgh view its government. It should embarrass the entire Council and the City Manager. Do you have any sway with the mayor to improve things?

At the last City Council meeting, Mayor Harvey went off on a rant because County Executive Neuhaus said that he had never met City Manager Venning. A responsible mayor would have called the County Executive to set up a meeting in the County Executive’s Office so that he could introduce the City Manager to the County Executive. Instead, the mayor sounded as if he was challenging the County Executive to a fight by saying that he would open up his office at anytime for the County Executive to come to Newburgh so that he could introduce the City Manager to him. Who does the mayor think he is, the President? the Pope? Does he not realize that the County Executive is a higher elected official?

The City of Newburgh needs all the friends that it can get. Treating the County Executive with disrespect coupled with the City government’s past unhinged attack on the Orange County District Attorney is not the way to go. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
